spirit of the deep

“Spirit Of The Deep” Dream inspired rough sketch that I captured in my dream journal. This bat winged, ghostly lookin’, accordion playin’ thing wearing a diving helmet appeared in my dream one night. You think I had Halloween on my mind?

For the final part in my series on discovering your own style (I saved the best for last,) I wanted to open the door to the idea of tapping into the creative spirit that is in each one of us. Here are the links for Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.

I will do my best to not get to deep into my Woo-Woo Guru act, but would like to at least introduce some food for thought as you go down your own artistic and perhaps even spiritual path.

Creativity can be an effective tool for enhancing our spiritual growth. Adopting it in various forms as a regular, even daily practice can provide opportunities to shift our consciousness in ways as yet only imagined…Dr Anne Hilty

By using meditation, visualization, prayer or whatever word you want to use to name that communication with your higher power, It is a source that you can ask for assistance and guidance for in not just in the creative arena but in all areas of your existence.

That is if you have the gumption. That decision is yours alone.

We all have the ability to tap into that unconscious or higher mind as a bottomless well filled with inspiration and ideas that are completely unique to you alone.

Isn’t that what an original style if all about!?!

There is no denying that we humans are
creative beings by default.

It’s coded into our DNA and the evolution of our species and entire planet is in an ongoing creative process.

If you have any doubt that you are creative, just make an effort to recall some of your dreams. You are the one that came up with all that crazy, funny emotional and sometimes disturbing images and thoughts.

Dreams are one of the way your sub conscious speaks to you.

Throughout human history creativity has been considered an act of channeling the divine or higher conscious through our mortal human hands.

Sadly, this has ideal for the most part has been paved over in modern culture especially in Western civilization.

Creative expression as a valuable and meaningful enterprise has been replaced by shallow pursuits of material gains which give little comfort to the soul or serve as an outlet for expression and connection.

This monkey don’t play that! I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS VIEW AS MY OWN!!!

I will not push my amazing, life affirming gift of imagination and my artistic inclinations into the toy box along with the fluffy stuffed animals and chintzy plastic novelties then regard it as something to do when the “work” is done.

But I digress…

the catch

“The Big Catch” An idea I did a rough sketch of after having it come to me during time spent soaking in the  alpha state. My intuition hints at symbolism of this image being one of me attempting to catch all the creative ideas that I have and bring them all together into one form.

My intention is not to guide you down any particular path on how to access this inner creativity that can flow through you as I am student myself and still learning what techniques best serve my creativity best.

I will however suggest that you go out and experiment with way to communicate with your source and see what works best for you.

I truly believe that these are all paths that lead to an artistic style that belongs solely to you.

Try writing every day or keeping a dream journal.

Look into a meditation, affirmation or visualization practice.

Breathe deeply and express gratitude for the life you have been given

Do something different and new outside of your comfort zone.

Try drawing outside alone in a natural peaceful setting

Go doodle in a bustlin’ coffee shop

Focus your awareness on the sight and sounds in the world and life that surrounds you.

Your  journey should be as unique to you
as the art it helps you to create!

I could easily go on for days on this topic, but will let this post serve as the gateway and will explore it further and deeper in future posts.

I would very interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on how you connect your spirituality to your art and creativity.

If you have anything to share please leave me a comment below.

I love the post, and the image is great. What’s your suggestion for finding the drive to want to do something again? I made a point of 5 blog posts a week for a long time and now I’m on day two of “just don’t wanna.”

    Tips, advice, recipes? ;)

Thanks Charlie, good to hear you got something out of the post and my ethereal images. As for rediscovering your drive, alls I can really say it that I feel your pain. I have gone through bouts of my get up having got up and went. The only tip I can give you is too not think about it and just start writing. Maybe cut back on the amount of post you are doing each week and write about the things that you are interested as opposed to writing for somebody else. This is something that I had found myself wresting with not long ago and still something I have to keep in mind.

I know you like to write so I am sure it will come back to you. I hope that helps in some degree. Good luck Man!
