The Brainy Benefits of Doodling
Here is a short video I put together of my homework’s progression from last week’s Doodles Unleashed lesson. See more doodles from others taking the workshop in the Flickr group
As the second week to the Traci Bautista’s Doodles Unleashed workshop sponsored by Strathmore comes to an end and the third week begins, my renewed interest in the humble act of doodling continues to grow. Did you know that doodling during classes, lectures and verbal presentations increases a greater retension of up to 29%! It’s true and if you don’t believe me just watch and listen to what Sunni Brown has to say about it.
Doodling has been studied and proven to help keep you focused, increase comprehension and creative thinking while sitting in class or in the boardroom. So embrace your doodlin’ birthright and all of it’s brainy benefits!
This is a doodle on the back of a piece of cardboard from a beer box that I had collaged with some scraps and spray painted then hit with markers, india ink, white out pen and acrylic paints.
Here is another doodle I had done this time done on the back of a piece of cardboard from a CD mailer that had been collaged with some scraps and spray painted then hit with markers, india ink, white out pen and acrylic paints.
More cardboard that I had pasted and painted and then set about a-doodlin’ with markers, india ink, white out pen and acrylic paints.

I really like the stats you have been throwing in. I can’t believe that it is the 3rd week already! Doodling has been fun for me too, something I didn’t realize I stopped doing…glad to be back at it. I have been doing it before I start to draw or do a collage. I guess it’s like freewriting, something I have lived by since forever. Anyways, great job. Glad we are in this together LOL
Right on Roni! My notes from the school days are covered in doodles in the margins. I actually have a few scrap books filled with the little drawings that I saved from my notes! I have also always totally enjoyed the little drawings by Al Jaffee in the margins of the pages of Mad Magazine
Seriously, I have been really getting into exploring all the benefits that creating art provides especially on the mental well being side of things. If more people would take the time to let there creativity out and it was more encouraged in the schools and board rooms, I truly believe there would be a lot more happier souls walking around this planet of ours.
As always thanks for the reply and creative camaraderie!!
